OPENING: Thank you Mr. president, fellow Toastmasters. We have a very exciting meeting planned for you this evening. We have ___ very experienced speakers. They have been Toastmasters for many years. So you are all in for a treat this evening. There will be two types of evaluations. First, individual evaluation from three members of the audience called upon by the Toastmaster randomly lasting one minute each, this is to hone every ones listening skills and then an assigned evaluator lasting 2-3 minutes.
INTRODUCTION:
Our first Speaker is ____________ (name), has been a Toastmaster for ______ (no of years). He/She will be giving Speech #__ from the _________(manual) Manual. The Title of the Speech is _________
There are _______ (no of objectives of the speech)
1. _____________________________________________
2. _____________________________________________
3. _____________________________________________
Time: _____ minutes
Please help me Welcome our ___ Speaker, Mr./ MS _____________(name)
Group Evaluation: One Minute each
Individual Evaluation: 2-3 Minutes
There are three elements of an evaluation:
1. Tell the speaker what he did well, his or her strengths
2. How can the person improve and use the ideas immediately
3. Ideas that the speaker can use for his future speeches and improvement
This approach is called the "Sandwich" approach
Staying within the time limit and to the point is very important part of the evaluations.
Standards of Conduct:
a) The members have to be "voted in" to ensure that the applicant has reached a certain level of proficiency in Public Speaking before admission into the VAST. That level is usually completion of a Competent Toastmaster (CTM).
b) Consensus of two third of the membership is required for admission into the VAST. If due to some reason, "Voting Out" is found necessary, again two third vote of the membership is required.
c) Each speaker must make at least three speeches from the advanced manual per year to keep the membership current.
2. Speeches: As in any Toastmaster Club, the members of VAST are required to give Advanced Manual Speeches and encouraged to complete their respective speaking assignments with the help of the Educational Vice President and an assigned mentor.
3. Evaluations: Two types of evaluations are provided to the speakers. One by an assigned evaluator and second by three individual members of the audience chosen randomly by the designated evaluator. This is to substitute for the Table Topics in regular Clubs. The evaluations are provided using a "Sandwich" approach by pointing out speaker's strengths and then areas where the speaker can improve immediately and areas for improvement for future.
4. Guest Speakers: Periodically, VAST invites guest speaker from various organizations such as Speaker's Bureau and experienced Speakers from other Toastmaster Clubs to further enhance the membership's speaking skills.
